OUR MISSION: The Civil Liberties
Union works to protect and defend the rights and freedoms guaranteed
by the United States Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
We
do this through public education, advocacy and litigation.
|

EDUCATION
NYCLULHV is actively involved in education.
To increase public knowledge and awareness, we provide programs
for schools, operate a Speakers Bureau which offers knowledgeable
discussions of both basic and current topics for community organizations
and hold public forums on civil liberties issues.
|

MONITORS
NYCLULHV monitors the actions of
local governments at all levels, seeking to point out and
prevent potential violations of rights before they occur
by testifying on proposed legislation, participating in public
hearings, commenting on the civil liberties aspects of proposals,
and encouraging public awareness of infringements on our
liberties.
|

RECEIVES COMPLAINTS
NYCLULHV receives and screens complaints
of violations of protected rights, providing advice and volunteer
legal assistance, ranging from research and statement of the
